Creating installation media
Write the Octlitch ISO to a USB drive before booting the installer.
Before you begin
You will need an Octlitch ISO image and a USB drive with at least 8 GB of capacity.
Writing the ISO will erase the contents of the selected USB drive. Back up anything important before continuing.
Verify the ISO
Each Octlitch release provides a SHA256 checksum on the download page.
On Linux, verify the ISO with:
sha256sum Octlitch-*.isoCompare the result with the checksum published on the Octlitch download page.
Write the ISO
Use an image-writing utility that writes the ISO directly to the USB device like Balena Etcher, Ventoy or Rufus if you are on Windows.
Do not extract the ISO contents onto the USB drive as ordinary files.
Using Fedora Media Writer
Select the option for a custom ISO image, choose the Octlitch ISO, select the correct USB drive and begin writing.
Using the command line
Advanced Linux users can write the image directly withdd.
The following command overwrites the selected device. Replace/dev/sdX with the USB device itself, not a partition such as /dev/sdX1.
sudo dd if=Octlitch-1.0-Alpha-1.iso of=/dev/sdX bs=4M status=progress oflag=syncBoot from the USB
Restart the computer and open its firmware boot menu. Select the USB drive and Octlitch should display its boot menu.
