Discover and Flatpak

Octlitch uses Flatpak and Flathub for many graphical desktop applications.

KDE Discover

Discover provides a graphical way to browse, install, remove and update Flatpak applications.

Open Discover from the application launcher and use the search field to find software.

System packages are managed separately

Discover in Octlitch is intended for Flatpak applications. Use DNF in the terminal when installing or updating system packages.

Flathub

Flathub is the primary Flatpak application source used by Octlitch.

Check the configured Flatpak remotes with:

flatpak remotes

A normal Octlitch installation should include a Flathub remote.

Add Flathub manually

If Flathub is not configured, it can be added with:

flatpak remote-add --user --if-not-exists \
flathub \
https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo

Search for applications

flatpak search application-name

Example:

flatpak search Krita

Install an application

Applications can be installed through Discover or directly from the terminal.

flatpak install flathub application-id

Flatpak applications use identifiers such as:

org.kde.krita

List installed Flatpaks

flatpak list

Update Flatpak applications

Discover can check for application updates automatically. You can also update everything from the terminal:

flatpak update

Remove an application

flatpak uninstall application-id

Remove unused runtimes

Flatpak applications can share large runtimes. When applications are removed, unused runtimes may remain installed.

Clean them with:

flatpak uninstall --unused

Fedora Flatpaks

Octlitch does not use the Fedora OCI Flatpak remote by default. Flathub is used instead for the graphical application catalogue.

This keeps the application source simple and avoids presenting duplicate versions of the same software.
